Impact safety features include a comprehensive airbag system, fitted as standard on all vehicles, which plays a vital part in protecting you and your passengers. Secondary safety is predicated on the immensely strong monocoque body and its inner safety cell. The inner safety cell itself is protected by meticulously engineered front and rear crumple zones which absorb energy during impact. Side-impact protection is further assisted by the ultra-high-strength steel door beams, the strong and deep door sills (bigger on a 4x4 than on a conventional car) and the raised seat position. Other key features include strong facia cross-rails, which help minimise the risk of the A-pillars spreading during impact, and the new Roll Stability Control (RSC) system.

Seven airbags, fitted as standard on all vehicles, play a key role in helping to protect all occupants. Driver and front passenger airbags provide head and chest protection. Intervenes at the onset of wheel spin to progressively reduce engine Torque. If wheel acceleration has not been stopped within 50 milliseconds, braking force is applied to the wheel to help control its speed.

Controls the distribution of brake forces between the front and rear wheels, to provide predictable braking under different load conditions.

Detects emergency braking, then instructs the electronic brake actuator to increase hydraulic pressure to help you improve your stopping distance.

Feeds additional brake force to the outside front wheel when cornering, minimising the risk of rear-end breakaway when braking hard.

If the car isn´t responding correctly to your steering input, this system intervenes in less than 10 milliseconds to adjust the vehicle´s course and cornering. It particularly helps the driver to maintain control in skid conditions.

Freelander 2 benefits from the classic Land Rover Command driving position. This places the driver in an elevated position, inspiring confidence and a feeling of being in control. The improved visibility afforded by the Command driving position also means potential hazards can be spotted well ahead of time.
